Librarians Throughout the Midwest to Judge Midwest Book Awards

For the first time in the Midwest Independent Publishers Association’s thirty-year history, the judging panel for the 2020 Midwest Book Awards is comprised almost entirely of librarians.

This year’s judges are approximately 95 percent librarians or library directors, 3 percent independent booksellers and 2 percent university staff (who were hand-picked for their subject matter expertise). The librarians hail from all twelve states in MiPA’s region and from major library branches, such as the Chicago Public Library, as well as university libraries and rural libraries. Judges were matched to their categories based not only on their interest, but also their expertise. Following the competition, judges are encouraged to keep the books for their patrons.

MiPA is located in Minneapolis and serves independent publishers in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
