The 2015 IPPY Awards Ceremony

Cheers to the 2015 Medalists!

Another year of amazing and groundbreaking indie books! On May 27th, we hosted the 19th Annual Independent Publisher Book Awards ceremony at the Providence Club in New York City. For us, celebrating the accomplishments and independent spirit of the IPPY medal winners is the best night of the year.

"Our ceremony isn’t your traditional awards gala," says Director Jim Barnes. "It follows in the spirit of the awards, which seek to recognize creativity, passion, and an indie attitude. The venue itself was once used as a recording studio for some of rock’s greatest artists, and we like to think we are keeping that rock’n’roll feeling alive by gathering some of the most talented indie authors and publishers in the industry here."

The venue is packed to the brim with authors, illustrators, publishers, editors, family and friends all toasting to the hard work, creativity and passion that led to these award-winning books. Below, the winners of the Outstanding medals pose together for a photo.

The best part of the evening is getting a chance to experience part of each award-winner's story. Here are some portraits and quotes to help describe the evening:

"Thank you for hosting - once again - such a superb evening. I always have such fun, and meet interesting people each time. Receiving the awards gives us (and I really mean all of us - from our team in the studio, to our authors and anyone else who has been involved in the process) such a boost - we treasure each one of them."

- Alexandra Papadakis, accepting a gold medal in Science for Nanoscience: Giants of the Infinitesimal, by Peter Forbes & Tom Grimsey (Papadakis Publisher)

Horror gold medalist M. Amanuensis Sharkchild scares off the spokesmodels while accepting his award for The Dark Verse, Vol. 3: Beyond the Grip of Time, (Armored Books).

"Thank you so much for the lovely party for the IPPY Awards last week. We traveled from California and thought that was a long way to come until we met the people from New Zealand, Singapore etc, etc!!!! The venue is so interesting and the food was great. We enjoyed meeting so many other creative people and had just an all around wonderful evening. Thank you for making us all feel so special!!"

- Pam Bacich, receiving a bronze medal in Holiday for Day of the Dead (Bacich Enterprises)

The folks from Insight Editions show off their beautiful pop-up map of Westeros, the gold medal-winner in Pop Culture. Only the dragons are missing!

"A big thank you to you, and all the gang. What a fun event, I had a blast, and so enjoyed meeting everyone in person. Now to the hard part…getting the book to sell! BUT I know the golden IPPY will help enormously, and for that I am very grateful. Thanks again for the recognition. "

- Matthew Taylor, receiving a gold medal in Humor for Goat Lips: Tales of a Lapsed Englishman, by Matthew Taylor (Merry Dissonance Press LLC)

Gold, silver, and bronze IPPY medals before they were presented to the winners.

Thanks to the all the medalists and guests who made our 19th annual IPPY Awards so memorable!
