XLIBRIS ADDS E-BOOK FORMAT TO PRODUCT LINE
Over 3,000 titles available for sale in Glassbook format.
Xlibris, a leading online writers' community and publishing services provider, has announced the addition of Glassbook formatted e-books to its product line."E-books are an effective medium for authors to reach more readers, and electronic publishing is consistent with Xlibris' objective of helping authors reach as broad an audience as possible. Our mission is for every writer to be published and for every book to be forever in print and available," said Xlibris Founder and Chief Executive Officer John Feldcamp. "E-books are another example of the rapid evolution of online publishing, and Xlibris is proud to be an innovator and leader in providing this service and capability to authors."
Over 3,000 Xlibris titles have been converted to the Glassbook format and now are available for $8.00 each through Xlibris' website bookstore. Authors receive a 50% royalty on e-book sales, which sets a new publishing industry standard. Authors within the Xlibris system prior to November 1st were given the opportunity to convert their books to the e-book format at no charge. Xlibris now includes the Glassbook e-book format in all of its paid services, and offers it as an add on to the free core service.
Xlibris chose the Glassbook format for its initial e-book offering based on its availability to readers, ease of use, and large user base. Glassbook is powered by Adobe's Acrobat Reader, which has over 30 million installed users. The specific reader software can be downloaded free and works with both desktop and laptop PCs.
"Ultimately, e-Books will be as common as paper books and they will have as broad a readership reach," said Feldcamp. "The cost of publishing books online is significantly less expensive than traditional methods and, by driving costs down, Xlibris now can partner with more authors and enable their voices to be heard."
Xlibris was founded in 1997 and has helped to publish more than 4,000 titles. The company now allows every author direct, personal and nearly immediate access to publication in hardback, trade paperback and electronic formats.
